This
auction is to help raise funds to further promote the efforts
of The International Sable Breeders
Association on behalf of its members. Also, to raise
funds to send a representative to the National Convention to represent the ISBA to the ADGA
Board, offer awards, etc. This is our way of raising funds for our organization, and the programs
that we wish to sponsor for our
membership.
The efforts to breed colored Saanens actually started back
prior to the change of the rule for
Saanens to all white. Prior to that, colored Saanens were recognized as part of the breed. However, after
the change in breed standard, colored
Saanens fell to the side and were considered a no no. In
the 1970's a group was formed, at that time
called the SBA, Sable Breeders Association,
that began pushing for recognition of these animals by ADGA,
instead of just within the Experimental
herdbook. Their efforts died out due to
situations beyond the membership's control.
Interest in breeding
this colored variant of the Saanen did not disappear, and in
1996, it was rekindled with the
formation of the International Sable Breeders
Association, whose efforts are
geared toward the Sable being recognized separately
and within their own herdbook. This would allow them to be
treated like any other dairy goat breed in
ADGA, registering bucks, and breeding
this group of animal for production and show.
