The Helen Derrick Benefit Auction
The Lake County Dairy Goat Association from Northern California is
hosting a benefit auction for their dear friend and fellow member, Helen
Derrick. Helen, age 42, has just been diagnosed with breast cancer that
has spread to her lymph nodes. She will need extensive treatment in the
months to come.
Helen and her
husband, Pete, have a few head of LaMancha and Grade dairy goats to go
along with Pete’s three Nigerian Dwarves.
Pete suffered complete kidney failure just 1 week after their
marriage 12 years ago as a result of long term Type 1 diabetes. He
requires dialysis 3 times a week and is currently on the list awaiting a
kidney transplant. Because of Pete’s disability, they live very
contently on an extremely limited income. Despite these challenges in
their lives, Helen and Pete are always eager to lend a hand to others in
need. Helen recently gave her 3 yr. Old GCH grade doe to a young 4-H
girl who wanted to begin showing at local shows.
Helen and Pete’s dream came true just over a year ago, with the help
of a very generous lady, they were able to purchase their first small
home in Upper Lake, CA.
Helen and Pete do not have any health insurance, but they will
receive help from the state through a cost sharing program for medical
expenses.
Our club members would like to see Helen and Pete keep their dream.
We are rallying together to host this benefit auction to raise funds to
help with their medical expenses.
Helen is a unique person who has the ability to see the needs of
others and does whatever she can to help.
Anything you can contribute to help meet her needs at such a
difficult time would be greatly appreciated.
